April 11-15

Monday
Intro: Today we will review the different types of graphs we learned about last week. The focus will be on what types of data should go on particular types of graphs.
Guided:  We will review and check Buckle Down classwork completed while the sub was there last week.
Independent: None
Closure: Any final questions on graphs.
If there is extra time, students will come up with their own survey question and decide which graph they would like to display their data on.
HW: None
Tuesday:
Intro: Today we will discuss which types of graphs will be used for certain data
Guided: We will give examples from previous work and review the types of graphs again.
Independent:  Handout #3 in JBHM
Closure: Check students work and enter grades
Wednesday
Intro: Today we will use Classworks online training for our test review. Remember that it emails me when you fail a mini-lesson or quiz, so be sure to ask for help before it gets that far.
Guided/Indep: I will walk around and assist students as they complete their assignments in Classworks.
Closure: Log out of program and  clean up your area
Thursday
Test over graphs and charts and how to read data (DOK 2)
Friday
P.A.T. Review with basketball or golf – each class will decide which sport to play

Data Analysis April 4-8

Monday:
Intro: Introduce 5c and 5a on interpreting data and using proportions, estimates, and percentages to make predictions about population (DOK 2). Read focus/intro on page 76 in teacher book.
Guided:  Review vocabulary through power point. Students will follow along on page 68
Independent: Review frequency table example on page 68.  Students will then complete frequency table on Handout #2 page 92. We will then review line graphs on page 70.  Students will use Handout #1 page 91 to complete the graph on page 92.
Closure:  What did you learn today?
HW: Complete page #92 if not finished in class
Tuesday
Intro: Review definitions and work from yesterday
Guided: Discuss scatter plots on page 70 in notes.  Students will use Handout #1 page 91 to create a scatter plot from information on Handout #2 page 93. We will then review how to make a Box-and Whisker plot and use Power Point to go over its parts.
Independent: Using data on page 93 students will create a box-and-whisker plot.
Closure: What are the parts of a Box-and-Whisker plot?
HW: Complete Box-and-Whisker plot on page 93.
Wednesday
Intro: Review notes and check homework from yesterday
Guided:  Review notes on page 73 on how to make a circle graph.  Students will then interpret data and complete a circle graph. We will complete #5 on Handout #2 page 94.  Students will then learn how to interpret a histogram.
Independent:  Students will complete page 94 #6 questions on histogram.
Closure:  Why would you use a histogram instead of a circle graph? Vice versa?
HW: Complete #6 on page 94 if not finished in class.
Thursday
Intro: Students will get their Buckle Down books and a sheet of paper to write their answers on.  
Guided/Indep: Students will have 45 mins to complete pages 158-169 in Buckle Down book. They may read their AR book when finished.  2nd and 4th periods may work in pairs. Groups are not allowed to talk to each other.  At 10 mins. til the bell students will exchange papers and grade their work. All papers will be turned in before they leave.
Closure:  Collect work
6th period will read AR books quietly.
Friday
Intro: Today we have a quick assignment and when you finish we will watch a video.
Guided: Students will complete 173-176 in Buckle Down book. When they finish their assignment they can read a book until everyone finishes. This should take about 20 mins.  After 20 mins. Students will watch an episode of Cyberchase that is about data analysis.
Closure: Have a great weekend!

March 22-25 Measures of Central Tendencies

Intro: Read cwensus statistics from page 50 in teacher book. Explain we will use methods used in teh census for this lesson.
Guided:  Review methods of central tendencies on binder notespage 48using Power Point for vocabulary and examples. 
Independent: Complete Handout #1 page 55
Closure: Start a page in your binder to trackyour grade's mean, median, and mode.
HW: None
 
Wednesday
Intro: Review terms from yesterday. Ask students for examples of when they have used mean, median, and mode other than for their grades.
Guided: Find average age of students. Discuss how an outlier would effect mean, median, and mode.
Independent: Complete Handout #2 page 57. Review practice problems for test tomorrow.
Closue: What is an outlier?
HW: Complete page 57 (if not finished in class)

March 7-12 (9 Weeks Test)

Monday, March 7
Intro: Today we will begin reviewing for our 9 weeks test that will be on Wednesday.
Guided:  Review for test using MCT2 Practice Problems CD on Interwrite  board.  Students will make signs and hold up their multiple choice response. I will check for understanding and assist those who are having trouble.
Independent: None
Closure:  Please continue to review for test!
HW: Study
Tuesday, March 8
Intro: Today we will continue our review for the 9 weeks test. Students will compete by answering math questions. The winning team will get 10 bonus points on tomorrow’s test.
Guided: Answer questions for 1 point.  You can add to your points by making a putt from various distances.
Independent: Students will work independently to answer questions during the game.
Closure: STUDY for tomorrow’s 9 weeks test!
HW:  Study

Intro:  Discuss how many ounces are in a pound, how many cups are in a pint, and various measurements. 
Guided: Students will watch food related videos to see cooking and recipes using measurements in real life.

Feb. 14-18 Construct and Classify 3-D Objects

Monday
Intro: Introduce obj. 3a (DOK 1) and 3b (DOK 2) Classify and construct 3-D objects/shapes.  Read Focus/Intro on page 220 in JBHM teacher book.
Guided: Review vocabulary and images on pages 218-219 using Power Point and JBHM CD.
Independent: Students will complete pages in Buckle Down book to familiarize themselves with the shapes.
Closure: What is an Edge? Face? Vertex?
HW: None
Tuesday
Intro: Review vocabulary and images.  Discuss differences in pyramids and prisms.
Guided:  Review directions for completing page 224 Handout #1.
Independent: Students will be divided in to groups of 5. They will be given marshmallows and spaghetti to construct 3-D shapes. They will use their shapes to complete a chart on Handout #1. We will discuss each figure and its parts. Look for patterns.
Closure:  Return to seats and clean up room.
HW: None
Wednesday
Intro: Review vocabulary and activity from yesterday
Guided: Review MCTS Practice problems from JBHM CD.  Students will hold up signs with answers. (2nd and 4th periods will be questioned at a DOK 3)
Independent:  None
Closure:  Study for test TOMORROW!

Intro:  Prepare for test. Quick review before test.
Guided: None
